Historical
Muna means "soft water or land" was founded on the exact data are unknown. In pre-Hispanic times belonged to the chieftainship of Tutul Xiu and after the conquest was under the regime of parcels from which one can mention of Don Alonzo Rosado in 1700.

Geography
Located in the coastal region west of the state, 53 miles south of Merida. It borders the following municipalities: Abala the north, south to Santa Elena, on the east Sacalum Tikul, west to Halacho, Opichen and Kopoma, west to the state of Campeche.
It has a height of 29 meters above sea level. Covering an area of 270.81 square kilometers.

Climate

According to figures from INEGI inn 2010 Muna has a population of 12,336 inhabitants of which 80% are inclined to the Catholic religion.

Economy
The economically active population of the municipality amounted to 7,074 people, 4,062 of witch are occupied and is presented as follows: agriculture, hunting, fishing, mining, petroleum, manufacturing, construction, electricity, trade and tourism.

Culture
From 12 to 15 August, the feast held in honor of the Virgin of the Assumption, patron saint of the population.
This feast has a double objective: the happy departure of Mary from this life and the Assumption of her bobby into heaven. It is the principal feast of the holy virgin.

For the holidays of all saints and faith departed is traditional to place an altar in the main site of the house where the dead are offered food that they like and the traditional Mucbi chicken, accompanied by corn atole and hot chocolate.
At parties people dance regional jaranas competing among participants.

Gastronomy
Muna main dishes are: beans with pork, chaya with egg, chicken stew, cheese filling, panuchos, deer, cochinita pibil, joroches, mucbi chicken and tamales,Made out of corn with pork, chicken, deer, salsa and habanero chiles.

The sweets are: yucca with honey, melaka pumpkin, and sweet potato with coconut, cocoyol in syrup, pumpkin seed, marshmallow and arepas.

The traditional drinks are: xtabentun, Balch, aniseed drink, horchata and pozole with coconut.

Tourist Attractions
In the town are a temple in honor of the Vigin of the Assumption, six chapels dedicated to St.Bernard, St.Mathew, St.Sebastian, La Soledad, St.Mary, and St.Andrew date back to colonial hacienda and the former St.Joseph Tibceh.
