Location: Located 130 km south of Cancun and 61 km south of playa del Carmen. The archaeological site of Tulum are surveyed withn the national park of the same name.

Description: The main structures are "El Castillo", "Templo de los Frescos" and "Templo del Dios descendente"
Site Importance: The city received the name in ancient Maya Zama (which translates as dawn or morning). Insted, Tulum (translated as palisade or wall) it seems to have come into use when the city was in ruins.
Some frescoes found inside the biuldings suggest some influences Mixtex.

History: Although inscriptions have been found dating back 564 years, most buildings can be seen today were built in the post classic, between 1200 and 1450.
