Quintana Roo
A state endowed with a unique beauty, which has a legendary history of struggle and conquest in each of its beautiful scenery.

Historical
Quintana Roo takes its name in honor of the patriot, Don Andres Quintana Roo, husband of Leona Vicario, was a politician, writer, journalist and one of the participants in the "Declaration of Independence of Mexico" The state was the first settlement of the Itzaes.

Geography
Quintana Roo has an area of 50,844km2, representing 25.5% of the land surface in this country. Bordered on the north Yucatan and the Gulf of Mexico, east by the Caribbean sea, south to the Bay of Chetumal and Belize and Campeche to the west. It binational border the countries of Guatemala and Belize, has 10 municipalities within.

Climate
In the body there is minimal variation in temperature during the year, the climate is humid with summer rains.

The average annual temperature of the state is 27c, with average maximum 33c and minimum of 17c. The driest period is between the mouths of February and May giving way to the rainy season between May and November.

Biodiversity
Quintana Roo is a state with rich biodiversity, has 3 million hectares of forest, where they develop more than 1,500 species of plants, making it tied with the country's largest forest vegetation.

You can find trees like red cedar, mahogany, ceiba and sapodilla also cotton, orchids, sea of daisies ect. Quintana Roo is the site of wide variety of mammals such as badgers, tigers, ocelot, monkeys saranguato, anteater, bat and much more.

In addition to birds such as pheasant, cardinal, pelicans, parrots, pigeons, toucans, gull, egrets and vultures and other.
The marine fauna is composed by the shark, swordfish, tarpon, snapper, dogfish, turtles, octopus, whale and dolphin among other.

Some species are endangered due to hunting irrational as the lizard, white tailed deer, manatee and significant amount of see turtles. 25% of the territory of who is under an environmental protection plan, in order to preserve natural resources and the impressive biological diversity of the state.

Narrow ecological reserves are Contoy island, Cozumel reefs National park, Isla Mujeres marine park, a biosphere reserve of Sian Ka an, Banco Chinchorro, among other.

Religion
According to figures from INEGI in 2010, 63% of fifth population are Catholics, while the rest is occupied by Protestants and Evangelicals. 16% of the population speaks an indigenous language.

Economy
The most important economic activity in the state is tourism and ecotourism, supported by a series of natural resources and that distinguish attractive internationally, most tourism is located in Cancun, Cozumel and the Rivera Maya.

Agriculture is the backbone of the economy in rural areas, with a planted area of 76,913 hectares, where crops are sugar, jalapeno, watermelon, rice, potatoes, onion, mango, banana, tomato and pumpkin.

Forestry participates in the extraction of high quality tropical timber. Within the livestock are the main target species of sheep, goats, pigs and cattle highlighting this last by a high production volume. When fishing catches include shrimp, conch, lobster, shark in general scale. The principal ports are Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, Morelos port, Juarez and Holbox.

Clothing

Culture
Within the traditions of state holidays are celebrated in honor of San Bernabe, the traditional festival of the people of San Bartolo. This holiday revelry regional dance, as well as cultural activities such as: fireworks, rides, crafts and more.

One of the customs more rooted in the region, presented in November, when the faithful celebrate the dead "Hanal pixan" with a culinary rite, recalling their ancestors.

Gastronomy
Creole cuisine is a delight full of smells and flavors, so characteristic of the peninsula. His dishes are colorful and distinguished by the variety of seasonings and creativity used for processing. The staple food is corn, pork, chicken, deer, among others chile habanero.

Typical dishes are the most relevant: Frijol con puerco, chaya con huevo, puchero de gallina, queso relleno, salbutes, panuchos, pipian de venado, papadzules, longaniza, cochinita pibil, mucbil, pimes and tamales.

In addition to variety of desserts, Yuca with honey, Camote, Coconut, cocoyol, mazapan de pepita de calabaza, melcocha and ciricote candy. The main beverages: licor de los dioses, bakche, pozole with coconut, horchata, corn atolr and reginal fruit water.
